It is by no means an exaggeration to say that Sanford V. Howard, Jr., CPA is the epitome of the consummate professional when it comes to serving his clients. "Buzz", as he is warmly known to some, is Vice President and firm principal of Guthrie, Jacobs and Eubanks, PA, a local accounting firm. He joined the firm after graduation from the University of Florida in 1978, and the focus in his accounting practice for more than 25 years has been to serve business owners and successful individuals with impeccable tax advice that is not exceeded.
During his tenure at Guthrie, Jacobs & Eubanks, Buzz has been asked by many clients for help with their investments and advice about the right way to take money out of their portfolios. They want dependable income and the best possible financial life. Not being able to provide these services was a major frustration for Buzz because he wanted to help his clients reach their goals but he wanted to do the work himself. He was hesitant to refer his clients to outside financial professionals because of the obvious conflict of interest associated with a commission driven compensation system that could "backfire" and do them more harm than good.
Buzz found the solution to his dilemma when he joined Burns Financial Management, a local Registered Investment Advisory firm. Unlike a stockbroker, Buzz is an Investment Advisory Representative of Burns Financial, and has a fiduciary obligation–a legal responsibility–to place the interests of his clients above his own. As a result, when it comes to investments, Buzz works with his clients only on a fully-disclosed fee basis just as he has done over the years as an accountant. He is their advocate!
Buzz is a Florida native and lifelong resident of West Palm Beach. He has been an active member of Wagg Memorial United Methodist Church since 1978, teaching Sunday school, serving as church treasurer, and as a member of the church finance committee since 1983. Buzz has also been active in civic affairs by serving two terms as director of the West Palm Beach Kiwanis Club, where he has been a member since 1980. He is Secretary and a board member of the West Palm Beach Kiwanis Scholarship Foundation. He also serves on the investment committee of the Foundation. The Foundation has given more than one million dollars in scholarships to deserving local high school students.
When he is able to find some leisure time in his busy schedule, Buzz enjoys fishing–particularly for the elusive snook. He is an avid golfer with an honest 13 handicap as of this writing. He and his wife, Janet, have been married for 25 years. They have two sons and one daughter.
